Fall time is the best time, especially in Gatlinburg. With the beautiful fall colors covering the mountains and the exciting seasonal festivities, it’s no wonder people flock to the area during this time of year. There are tons of things to do in Gatlinburg that’ll get anyone into the autumn spirit. Here is a list of some the most popular events and activities that you and your family are sure to enjoy.
1. Ride the Gatlinburg SkyLift
One way to experience the beauty of fall is by riding the famous Gatlinburg SkyLift. Enjoy views of Gatlinburg and the Smokies from up to 1,800 feet in the air! People of all ages and heights are welcome and children ages 2 and under can ride for free! Discounts for active and retired military are also available. Up to 3 people can fit in one chair, so you can share the experience with your friends and family! If you come back to ride the Gatlinburg SkyLift at night, you will have a completely new experience as you watch the lights of the city shine below. The best part is that once you reach the top, you'll enter the Gatlinburg SkyPark, home to the Gatlinburg SkyBridge, SkyTrail, SkyCenter, and SkyDeck. Fun activities and gorgeous fall foliage surround you at every turn!
2. Ober Mountain's Smoky Mountain Fall Fest
Ober Mountain's Smoky Mountain Fall Fest is a fun fall event for family members of all ages! Get ready to enjoy a mountaintop of fun, with a hay mountain you can slide down, a hay track you can pedal around, and a hay maze you can make your way through! There's also delicious seasonal food items, from Schnitzel Sandwiches and Ober Dunkel Brats to Pumpkin Spice Fudge and Pumpkin Juice. You'll also be able to sip on German beers as you listen to live music on the mountain. It's an event that all ages can enjoy!
3. Attend the Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair
Voted one of the Southeast’s “Most Popular Events,” the Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair is something you don’t want to miss. Top artisans from all across the United States gather here in October. The fair is one of the more unique things to do in Gatlinburg because you can observe and learn from the artists as they demonstrate their special skills. This event is often more popular than its summer counterpart mainly due to the increase in Christmas shopping. No surprise there! This is the perfect place to pick up handcrafted products and one-of-a-kind gifts for the holidays.
4. Haunted Houses
For one of Gatlinburg’s most terrifying attractions, visit Mysterious Mansion! This victorian-style haunted house offers self-guided tours where spooky surprises await you. Their Halloween tours have a new and exciting theme every year that will keep you on your toes. This attraction is recommended for a more mature crowd but children under the age of 5 can enter for free. For spooky fun more suited for the little ones, stop by Ripley’s Haunted Adventure! Children must be at least 6 years old to participate. There are live actors lurking around every corner. Both of these haunted houses are open year round, so enter if you dare!
